Orthopedic beds for arthritic dogs: what actually matters
AAHA lists "appropriate beds" among its home adjustments for senior pets. Most "orthopedic" labels are marketing, so here's what to compare.
What to compare
- Support: your dog's hips and elbows shouldn't sink through to the floor. Press a fist into the center to check.
- Entry height: a very tall bed can be as hard to climb onto as the couch. Bolsters help dogs that lean but get in the way of dogs that stumble.
- Non-slip base: the bed shouldn't skate across hard floors when your dog gets up.
- Washable, waterproof cover: incontinence is common in older dogs.
- Data status: no bed specs have been verified yet. Products will be added only with manufacturer-confirmed foam, size, and warranty details.
