Car, SUV & truck ramps compared
Vehicle floors are much higher than beds, so length matters more. PetSafe publishes a maximum vehicle height for each telescoping ramp, which is a useful sanity check alongside the slope calculator.
Ramp slope calculator
Enter the rise (floor to the top of the bed/couch, or ground to the vehicle floor) and the ramp length. Sources disagree on an exact "safe" angle, and we haven't found a published veterinary standard. As a working rule, gentler is better for weak or arthritic dogs.
What to compare
- Measure the ground to the surface your dog will step onto (cargo floor or seat), not to the roof.
- Check ramp weight: you'll be lifting it in and out of the car on every trip.
- Telescoping ramps adjust length. Folding ramps are often wider but bulkier.
